Augavella created this Galician toasted brandy with the firm intention of making it a distinctive liqueur, with a unique flavor and much sweeter than white brandy or pomace brandy. The toasted brandy gets its name from its dark, amber color, which sets it apart from other similar liqueurs.
The best Galician toasted brandy
Thanks to the use of the best raw materials, the Mencía grape from Ribeira Sacra; and a careful production process, Augavella has achieved a toasted brandy that stands out for its aroma of dried fruits and its sweet taste, far from the aggressiveness of other brandies.
What is toasted aguardiente?
Toasted brandy is a type of spirit that is much more elaborate than regular white pomace brandy. It is made from the same pomace, the remains of fermented grape skins, as any other of these spirits. In the case of Augavella, the same Mencía grape variety used to produce the renowned wines of the Ribeira Sacra region is used.
Once this base is obtained, different ingredients are added. Each distillery has its own secret recipe, and Augavella is no exception. Although there are variations, the foundation of any toasted spirit lies in one ingredient: caramelized sugar. This gives the spirit its characteristic golden color and also reduces the harshness of the pomace itself, resulting in a toasted liqueur with a much sweeter and more pleasant flavor, ideal for enjoying on special occasions.
